India–US Trade Deal: Major Breakthrough Expected After G7 Talks Between Modi and Trump

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirms that India and the US are very close to finalising an interim trade agreement after key discussions at the G7 Summit.

India–US Trade Deal :   India and the United States are reportedly very close to finalising a long-awaited interim bilateral trade agreement, marking a significant step forward in economic ties between the two nations. According to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, both sides have made substantial progress, and the deal could be concluded soon, signalling a major diplomatic and economic milestone.

The development comes shortly after discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump at the G7 Summit, where the proposed agreement was also reviewed in detail.

India–US Trade Deal Progress Near Final Stage

Speaking at a press briefing, Misri confirmed that negotiations for the India–US trade deal have advanced significantly. He stated that both countries are now very close to finalising the interim agreement.

The India–US trade deal has been a key focus of ongoing diplomatic talks, with officials from both sides working to resolve remaining issues. Misri also announced that US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer is expected to visit India next week to continue discussions and push the agreement forward.

Leadership Push from Modi and Trump

The momentum behind the India–US trade deal has been strengthened by recent high-level engagement between the two leaders. During their meeting at the G7 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump reportedly directed officials to accelerate negotiations and conclude the agreement at the earliest.

Trump also acknowledged progress in talks, describing Modi as one of the toughest negotiators. He praised India’s growing economic engagement with the United States and highlighted increasing Indian investment in the American market.

Trump Praises India–US Economic Engagement

Former US President Donald Trump said the discussions with Prime Minister Modi were productive and wide-ranging. He noted that the India–US trade deal reflects the broader strengthening of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Trump also appreciated India’s investments in the United States, stating that significant financial activity is already taking place, further deepening bilateral ties.

India–UK Trade Deal Also Highlighted

Alongside the India–US trade deal, India has also welcomed the upcoming Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the United Kingdom, set to take effect from July 15.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the India–UK agreement as a historic milestone aimed at boosting trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two nations, complementing India’s broader global trade expansion strategy.

With both diplomatic and economic momentum building, the India–US trade deal appears closer than ever to completion. The upcoming visit of US officials to India is expected to further accelerate negotiations, potentially paving the way for a landmark agreement between two of the world’s largest democracies.
