India’s first bullet train on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor will start operations on August 15, 2027, says Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s announcement that the nation is expected to see the start of its first high-speed rail service on August 15, 2027, has brought attention back to India’s first bullet train project.
Several political figures responded to the statement on Friday, calling it a significant advancement and a source of pride for the country.
Railways Minister Vaishnaw told reporters in New Delhi on Thursday that work is underway on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail track, which will be the nation’s first bullet train project. According to him, the project’s first operational phase is anticipated to run from Surat to Bilimora, then from Vapi to Surat. The entire corridor, which is being created in partnership with Japan and includes cutting-edge high-speed rail technology, is roughly 508 kilometers long.
JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad responded to the news by saying that the bullet train project shouldn’t be seen solely from a political perspective. “We may raise the same questions about sending missions to Mars or the Moon, but this might become a problem for the opposition. “Many common people will benefit from using the bullet train, and their everyday lives are equally important,” he stated.

Such programs must to be acknowledged as a component of the government’s larger development efforts, Prasad continued. As a result, this should be acknowledged as a component of the progress our government is promoting and seen outside political discourse. The effective implementation of the decision to introduce the bullet train to India is unquestionably a significant accomplishment for the nation,” he stated.
Shaina NC, the chief of the Shiv Sena, praised the declaration as a national pride moment. “It is a matter of pride that the Indian government and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw have announced that the country’s first bullet train will be operational from August 15,” she stated in response to the Railways Minister’s remark.
She emphasized the importance of the project by pointing out that the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail route was created in partnership with Japan utilizing the most advanced technology available. “Commuters are expected to benefit greatly from it, and it is a significant step towards a developed India,” she continued.
In order to modernize India’s rail system, shorten travel times, and increase economic activity along the route, the bullet train project is viewed as a revolutionary endeavor. The project is anticipated to continue to be a significant symbol of India’s drive towards high-speed, top-notch transportation infrastructure since the government has established a clear timeframe.
