Chief Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi issued Fatwa Banning Funeral Prayers for Terrorists
In a bold and unprecedented move, Chief Imam of the All India Imam Organization, Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, has issued a fatwa declaring that no imam in India should lead funeral prayers for terrorists killed in the country. This religious edict is being hailed as a significant step toward strengthening the fight against terrorism, while also dispelling the myth that extremism finds support within India’s Muslim clerical leadership.

Indian Sufi Foundation Endorses Fatwa, Urges Social Boycott
Kashish Warsi, National President of the Indian Sufi Foundation, lent his full support to the fatwa, calling it a courageous and much-needed step in the right direction. Speaking in Hindi, Warsi said, “Those who support or justify terrorists are defaming Islam. They are the same people who martyred Maula-e-Kainat, Imam Hasan, and Imam Hussain. Such people have no place in our society.”
He went on to criticize Islamic nations that fail to issue similar condemnations, questioning their commitment to the principles of Islam. Warsi added that Islam is a religion of peace, compassion, and sacrifice, and any support for terrorism is a betrayal of these core values.
Warsi also called for a social boycott of individuals who attempt to justify or glorify terrorism in the name of religion. “Such people are not only harming society but are also tarnishing the image of Islam globally,” he said.
Call for Unity Among Religious Leaders
Warsi urged all religious leaders across faiths to speak out against terrorism in unison. He appealed to the Muslim community to stay vigilant and socially isolate those who promote hate or violence under religious pretenses. According to him, the fatwa should serve as a rallying point for religious harmony and national unity.
“Let us not allow terrorists to divide us. We must respond with unity, not silence,” he concluded.
