Chandigarh: The city is all set to witness a breathtaking aerial spectacle as the Chandigarh Air Show takes place over Sukhna Lake on March 27 and 28. The Indian Air Force’s elite Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team will perform thrilling high-speed manoeuvres and precision formations, offering a rare visual treat to spectators.
In view of the event preparations, Sukhna Lake will remain closed to the public until 2 pm on March 28.
Timings and Event Highlights
The much-awaited Chandigarh Air Show will be held between 10:30 am and 11:30 am on both days, with a slight change on March 28 when the show will begin at 10:40 am. Known for its synchronized flying and vibrant formations, the Surya Kiran team is expected to deliver a spectacular performance against the scenic backdrop of the lake.
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said the event is of great importance for the city and is expected to draw large crowds. He added that detailed arrangements have been made for smooth conduct.
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria will attend the event as the chief guest on March 28.
Entry Passes and Transport Plan
Entry to the Chandigarh Air Show will be strictly regulated through passes available on the Chandigarh Tourism app at ₹100 per person. The venue capacity has been capped at 10,000 visitors per day.

To ensure smooth transportation, free shuttle services by Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) buses will operate from seven designated pick-up points across the city. Visitors must use these buses, as private vehicles will not be allowed near the venue.
Authorities have advised attendees to follow the boarding points mentioned on their passes. The last pick-up timing for buses is 9 am.
Security and Safety Arrangements
Extensive safety measures have been put in place for the Chandigarh Air Show. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will be deployed along with speedboats, life jackets, and cranes at the lake.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur confirmed that over 1,300 police personnel will be deployed to manage security, traffic, and crowd control.
Facilities such as drinking water, sanitation, and special arrangements including wheelchairs for persons with disabilities have also been ensured.
Guidelines for Visitors
Authorities have issued strict instructions to ensure safety during the Chandigarh Air Show:
- Bags, handbags, and eatables are strictly prohibited
- Only transparent water bottles are allowed
- No storage facility will be available at the venue
- Food items are banned to prevent bird interference during the air show
- Children below six years are not advised to attend
