Amarnath Yatra Crowd Management Strained as Massive Rush Hits Pahalgam Checkpoint

Heavy pilgrim rush and registration delays create congestion at Pahalgam and Srinagar transit camps as the Amarnath Yatra officially begins.

A heavy rush of pilgrims was witnessed at the X-ray security checkpoint in Pahalgam ahead of the departure of the first official convoy for the Amarnath Yatra crowd management, with a large number of devotees arriving without prior registration. Although authorities had reserved a limited quota for spot registration, many unregistered pilgrims faced difficulties, highlighting ongoing concerns related to Amarnath Yatra crowd management as the pilgrimage season begins.

Confusion Over On-the-Spot Registration

Several pilgrims reported confusion over the registration process this year. While online registration was encouraged, many said on-ground arrangements were unclear, leading to delays and uncertainty. Earlier registration points at Pahalgam Club were reportedly used in previous years, but this time the lack of clear guidance has added to the Amarnath Yatra crowd management challenges.

A group of pilgrims from Rajasthan also faced issues, with only a few members of their group managing to secure permits while others continue to wait for approval. Such incidents reflect the growing pressure on systems linked to Amarnath Yatra crowd management.

Overcrowding at Transit Camp in Srinagar

The situation has intensified at the Pantha Chowk Transit Camp in Srinagar, which has a capacity of around 2,800 pilgrims but is currently hosting more than 8,000 arrivals. Authorities have restricted entry for those without valid registration, further highlighting issues in Amarnath Yatra crowd management.

Pilgrims with confirmed registration are receiving RFID cards quickly, while unregistered devotees are being turned away or asked to return. The imbalance has added strain to ongoing Amarnath Yatra crowd management efforts at multiple entry points.

Tight Security and Convoy Movement

Security has been significantly strengthened across Pahalgam and Srinagar as thousands of devotees arrive from different parts of the country. Only vehicles part of the official convoy are being allowed to proceed towards the base camp, with strict traffic restrictions in place.

Despite congestion, many pilgrims expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements and coordination. However, administrative pressure due to Amarnath Yatra crowd management remains visible at checkpoints and transit points.

Yatra Route and Arrangements

Officials confirmed that all preparations for the pilgrimage have been completed. The first batch of pilgrims will move from Srinagar to Pahalgam base camp for document verification before beginning the journey on foot.

The route includes Chandanwari, Pissu Top, Sheshnag, Mahagunas Pass, and Panchtarni before reaching the Amarnath cave shrine.

While arrangements are in place, the ground situation continues to test Amarnath Yatra crowd management systems due to the sudden surge of unregistered pilgrims.

As the yatra begins, authorities are focusing on improving coordination and handling large inflows of devotees. The situation underscores the importance of efficient Amarnath Yatra crowd management to ensure smooth and safe pilgrimage operations in the coming days.
