New Delhi: Shortly after takeoff, an Air India flight from Delhi to Mumbai returned to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport because the aircraft’s right engine had low oil pressure, an official said Monday. After the flight, AI887, safely landed back at the Delhi airport, all of the passengers and crew disembarked.

Air India stated in a statement that it was sorry for the inconvenience and that it was making other arrangements for the passengers to travel to their destination. The airline, which is owned by Tata, added that Air India’s first concern is still the “safety and wellbeing” of its customers and crew.

“In accordance with regular operating practice, the crew of flight AI887 from Delhi to Mumbai on December 22 decided to return to Delhi shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue. The passengers and crew have disembarked from the airplane after it made a safe landing in Delhi, according to the statement. “The required inspections are being performed on the aircraft. The passengers are receiving quick help from our ground crew in Delhi, and alternate plans have been made to take them to their destination soon.”
