India Calls Pakistan a “Failed State” at UNHRC, Defends Kashmir’s Sovereignty

In a scathing attack at the 58th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Thursday, India strongly criticized Pakistan, labeling it a “failed state” that thrives on instability and survives on international aid. Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi delivered the sharp rebuttal, accusing Pakistan of manipulating international platforms to push an anti-India narrative.

Scathing Remarks Against Pakistan’s Governance

Tyagi wasted no time in attacking Pakistan’s governance, calling it “incompetent” and its rhetoric “hypocritical.” He condemned Pakistan for abusing the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to further its agenda, accusing it of misleading the global community.

“It is regrettable to see Pakistan’s leaders and delegates continuing to spread falsehoods handed down by its military-terrorist complex. Pakistan is making a mockery of the OIC by abusing it as its mouthpiece. It is unfortunate that this Council’s time continues to be wasted by a failed state that thrives on instability and survives on international handouts. Its rhetoric reeks of hypocrisy, its actions of inhumanity, and its governance of incompetence. India remains focused on democracy, progress, and ensuring dignity for its people. Values that Pakistan would do well to learn from,” Tyagi stated.

Kashmir’s Sovereignty: India’s Firm Stand

In his remarks, Tyagi also took aim at Pakistan’s repeated references to Jammu and Kashmir. Reaffirming India’s firm stance, he asserted that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, would always remain an integral part of India. He further emphasized the political, social, and economic progress made in these regions in recent years, contrasting them with the instability faced by Pakistan.

“The Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. The unprecedented political, social, and economic progress in J&K in the past few years speaks for itself. These successes are a testament to the people’s trust in the government’s commitment to bring normalcy to a region scarred by decades of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” Tyagi said.

Highlighting Pakistan’s Human Rights Violations

India also pointed to Pakistan’s own human rights record, accusing the country of systematic abuses. Tyagi criticized Pakistan for its persecution of religious minorities, democratic backsliding, and its role in harboring UN-sanctioned terrorists.

“As a country where human rights abuses, persecution of minorities, and systematic erosion of democratic values constitute state policies and which brazenly harbors UN-sanctioned terrorists, Pakistan is in no position to lecture anyone,” he said.

Urging Pakistan to Address Internal Governance Failures

Tyagi urged Pakistan to focus on addressing its internal governance failures instead of obsessing over India. He condemned Pakistan’s use of international platforms to deflect attention from its domestic issues, calling on the country to prioritize the welfare of its own people.

“Instead of its unhealthy obsession with India, Pakistan should focus on providing actual governance and justice to its own people,” Tyagi asserted.

India’s Consistent Stand on Kashmir

The remarks made by Tyagi at the UNHRC reflect India’s consistent position on the Kashmir issue. India has long maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of its territory, and this stance was reaffirmed on February 19 by India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, during an open debate at the UN Security Council.

“The Deputy PM and Foreign Minister of Pakistan have referred to an integral and inalienable part of India, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in his remarks. I would like to reaffirm that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always be, an integral and inalienable part of India,” Harish said.

India has repeatedly rejected Pakistan’s attempts to internationalize the Kashmir issue, maintaining that the region’s progress and development are a clear indicator of its rightful place within India.

The Path Forward: Focusing on Real Issues

As diplomatic tensions between the two countries continue, India’s message at the UNHRC underscores its unwavering stance on sovereignty and human rights. With Pakistan facing significant internal challenges, the call for a shift in focus from India to Pakistan’s domestic governance issues remains a prominent theme in India’s diplomatic strategy.
