Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana met Kenya’s Narok County Governor to boost agri-cooperation, focusing on tech exchange, irrigation, and research ties.
Mr. Shyam Singh Rana, the Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, convened a meeting with Mr. Patrick Ole Ntutu, Narok County Governor Kenya, to investigate potential avenues for enhancing agricultural collaboration between the two countries.
The leaders engaged in comprehensive discussions regarding a variety of critical topics, such as the modernization of irrigation systems, the development of agricultural land, the advancement of collaboration in agricultural research and technology, and the innovation of the animal husbandry sector.
The incorporation of micro-irrigation systems, the use of drone-based technologies in agriculture, and Haryana’s progress under its crop diversification policy were emphasized by Mr. Shyam Singh Rana. He stated that these initiatives have resulted in substantial enhancements in the incomes of farmers and the productivity of agriculture. He emphasized that Kenya could also benefit from the implementation of comparable technologies and practices. He also emphasized the significance of expert exchanges, cooperative research initiatives, and training programs between the agricultural research institutions of Kenya and the CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. He stated that such partnerships would facilitate the adoption of emerging technologies by producers in both nations and enhance the resilience of the agriculture sector.

Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu commended the Haryana government’s technological innovations and progressive agricultural policies. He vigorously advocated for the implementation of comparable contemporary agricultural methodologies in Narok County and expressed gratitude for Haryana’s assistance in this cause. He stated that this collaboration would be crucial in enhancing the incomes of farmers and fostering sustainable agricultural development in Kenya.
Mr. Shyam Singh Rana, the Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, is presently in Nairobi, Kenya, for a five-day official visit from October 9 to 13. He is accompanied by a 20-member Indian delegation. The objective of the visit is to facilitate the exchange of contemporary agricultural technologies and to strengthen bilateral cooperation between India and Kenya in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, and agri-based trade.
The Haryana delegation met with senior officials from the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) during their visit. The discussions centered on the incorporation of advanced agri-technologies, climate-resilient strategies, agricultural mechanization, and research advancements in maize and wheat cultivation.

The agreement to establish exchange programs between agricultural universities and research institutions in both countries was a significant result of the visit. The objective of these programs is to promote the development and dissemination of innovative technologies for farmers, capacity building through training, and collaboration in agricultural research.
