Karnataka activists raise concerns over Yash-starrer Toxic Trailer , calling for removal due to graphic visuals and potential impact on minors.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) women’s wing in Karnataka has expressed disapproval of the preview for the Yash-starring movie Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups, citing what it called graphic visuals and calling on the state to step in. The Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has received a complaint from social activist Dinesh Kallahalli regarding the glimpse’s adult content. Following the January 8 release of the Toxic Trailer  which shows Yash having sex with a lady, the uproar arose.

Karnataka State Commission for Women (KSWC) received the complaint on Monday, asking for prompt action on whether the material was appropriate for public consumption. It was decided to seek the commission because of the teaser’s depiction of graphic content, party representatives said.

In their formal complaint, AAP women’s wing leaders met with KSWC officials and emphasized the alleged indecency offenses and the possible impact on viewers. The teaser’s removal from public platforms was particularly ordered by the party.

“This movie’s obscene and explicit teaser is seriously harming the social well-being of women and children,” wrote AAP state secretary Usha Mohan in a letter expressing the party’s worries. These scenes offend Kannada tradition and diminish women’s dignity because they were made public without any age-related disclaimer.

Citing the “adverse impact on society, particularly on minors,” the letter further requested that the commission “intervene and direct the state government authorities to ban the teaser and remove it from social media platforms.”

The AAP women’s wing emphasized how important it is for the government to protect the moral and cultural values of the state. In order to “uphold the cultural and moral values of the state,” the letter urged the women’s commission to take the issue seriously and act right away on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party’s women’s wing.

In a letter to the CBFC, the commission secretary quoted the AAP appeal and said, “It is hereby requested to take further action on the subject mentioned in the petition after verifying it as per rules and to submit an action-taken report in this regard.”

A lawsuit has been filed against the teaser for Toxic with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), claiming that it contains pornographic, sexually explicit, and morally objectionable content. In order to obtain prompt statutory action, social activist Dinesh Kallahalli sent an email to CBFC Chairperson Prasoon Joshi with his complaint.

“The trailer, which has been widely shared on social media, violates public decency and morality and exposes minors and young viewers to legally prohibited content,” Kallahalli stated in his complaint. According to him, such content is not protected by the Constitution’s Article 19(1)(a) and is not allowed under Article 19(2).

Trailers and promotional materials are also subject to stringent certification standards, according to the complaint, which references the Cinematograph Act of 1952, CBFC guidelines, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita of 2023.

According to the complainant, the CBFC should examine the trailer, take out any offensive material, limit its distribution, and take legal action against the producers and distributors. Additionally, if immediate action is not taken, he has threatened to file a complaint with the High Court.

Geetu Mohandas, the director, spoke about female pleasure and permission a few days ago in response to the criticism of the teaser trailer. Although she was outspoken about feminism and the representation of women in movies, she received backlash for such graphic sequences, which prompted her to respond.

Directed by Geethu Mohandas and co-written by Yash and Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups stars Rukmini Vasanth, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, Akshay Oberoi, and Sudev Nair. The release date of the movie is set for March 19.
