Filmmaker Karan Johar made a striking debut at the Met Gala with his Karan Johar Met Gala 2026 Look, wearing a bespoke creation designed by close friend and fashion designer Manish Malhotra. The outfit draws inspiration from the timeless artworks of legendary Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma.

Titled “Framed in Eternity,” the Karan Johar Met Gala 2026 Look features a power-shouldered vintage jacket paired with a hand-painted cape measuring nearly six feet. The intricate ensemble was crafted over 85 days by more than 80 artisans, making it one of the most detailed creations showcased at the event.

A Tribute to Indian Art and Heritage

The Karan Johar Met Gala 2026 Look is deeply rooted in Indian artistic heritage, with visual references drawn from iconic works such as Lady with the Peach, Hamsa Damayanti, Kadambari, and Arjuna and Subhadra. The design reflects Johar’s personal connection to storytelling and cinema.

“I didn’t want to arrive here trying to explain India. I wanted to arrive feeling like myself,” Johar said, emphasizing that the Karan Johar Met Gala 2026 Look was about authenticity rather than representation.

Met Gala Theme and Global Spotlight

This year’s Met Gala theme, “Costume Art” with the dress code “Fashion is Art,” celebrates the intersection of creativity and couture. The event, held annually in New York, is co-chaired by global icons including Beyoncé, Venus Williams, Nicole Kidman, and Anna Wintour.
