Composer Amaal Mallik has become the subject of an escalating controversy after the music duo Sachet–Parampara accused him of improperly claiming credit for inspiring their hit track Bekhayali. The duo has requested a public apology; however, Amaal’s reticence and his succinct, carefully crafted response have only heightened the speculation surrounding the controversy.

A video doing the rounds on social media shows a reporter attempting to ask Amaal about the allegations. Before the query is fully articulated, his team promptly intervenes, conclusively dismissing it with a resolute, “No, no, no…” Amaal, however, presents a gracious smile and replies with a composed, “All the best,” opting not to pursue further engagement. His restrained response has merely intensified online discourse as supporters and industry observers speculate on potential developments.

What prompted the confrontation

The matter arose when Amaal, in an interview with Siddharth Kannan, stated that Sachet–Parampara had referenced one of his compositions in the creation of Bekhayali for Kabir Singh. According to him, he had transmitted the melody to the duo via WhatsApp.

Sachet–Parampara unequivocally refuted the allegation in a comprehensive social media video, providing screenshots of their conversations to substantiate their denial. The messages indicate that Amaal is offering compliments—praising their appearance and expressing appreciation for their song—but do not include any reference to sharing a musical piece.

Insisting that the track was solely their own creation, the tandem stated, “Every melody, every arrangement, and every lyric were composed during those sessions.” It is an entirely original composition by Sachet–Parampara.

Labeling Amaal’s remarks as misleading, they demanded a public apology and underscored that he was the one who introduced the issue into the public sphere. They also warned that they would pursue legal action if he fails to issue an apology.

For now, neither Amaal nor his team has released a formal statement addressing the controversy. The composer recently concluded his stint on Bigg Boss 19, where he finished in fifth place.
