Toyota is preparing to launch the new generation Toyota Fortuner in India next year, marking a significant update for the popular SUV. The current Fortuner continues to sell strongly, but the upcoming model is expected to bring substantial changes that could boost sales further.
Platform and Electrification
Built on the updated IMV platform of the new-generation Hilux, the new Toyota Fortuner will introduce hybrid technology for the first time. The model was initially revealed in Thailand and represents a larger evolution over the previous generation.

Toyota Fortuner Engine Options for India
At launch in India, the Fortuner is expected to offer both petrol and diesel options, with the possibility of a hybrid variant to enhance efficiency and appeal. The current petrol variant has limited sales due to high fuel consumption, but the new petrol engine may improve performance and attractiveness. The diesel option is likely to feature a 2.8-liter engine with a mild hybrid system, while the petrol variant could carry forward the 2.7-liter engine. A fully electric Toyota Fortuner is not expected. The India launch is projected for 2027.
Design, Interior, and Features
The next-gen Toyota Fortuner will adopt a more premium, Lexus-inspired design, with a longer wheelbase and robust, boxy styling influenced by the Hilux. The SUV will feature an all-new interior, comparable to the latest Prado, including a modern dashboard, upgraded materials, a larger infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster, and sunroof for the first time. Overall, the feature list will be significantly enhanced, elevating the Fortuner’s luxury and tech appeal.
The new generation Toyota Fortuner is expected to strengthen Toyota’s SUV lineup in India, offering improved performance, premium styling, and modern features while maintaining its reputation for reliability.
