The Indian government has issued a public advisory warning people about online scams related to the proposed 8th Pay Commission. The alert comes after fake “salary calculator” tools started appearing on social media platforms and messaging apps.
Officials have cautioned central government employees and pensioners not to open suspicious links that claim to show revised salary calculations. Authorities say cybercriminals are taking advantage of the growing interest around the upcoming pay revision to steal personal and financial information through fraudulent websites and phishing schemes.
Fake Salary Calculators on the Rise
As per the advisory, several unofficial websites and viral posts are falsely claiming to provide accurate salary estimates under the 8th Pay Commission. These links often ask users to submit sensitive details such as employee ID numbers, bank account information, mobile numbers, and even login credentials.

Cybersecurity agencies have clarified that these websites are fake and have no connection with any government department. The government’s popular cyber awareness handle “Cyber Dost” has also urged citizens to avoid clicking on unverified links and to depend only on official notifications for updates about pay revisions.
Authorities have further confirmed that no official online salary calculator has been released by the government so far.
