During the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor was set at 2.57, which raised a Level 1 basic pay of Rs 7,440 to Rs 18,000.

Experts suggest that the 8th Pay Commission may propose a fitment factor between 1.83 and 2.46. Using a commonly discussed factor of 2.15, the potential impact could be:

  • Level 1 (Entry-level): Rs 18,000 → Rs 38,700 (Increase: Rs 20,700)

  • Level 10 (Mid-level): Rs 56,100 → Rs 1,20,615 (Increase: Rs 64,515)

  • Level 18 (Top officers): Rs 2,50,000 → Rs 5,37,500 (Increase: Rs 2,87,500)
