In a setback for Indian tennis, Rohan Bopanna and his Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi were defeated by the American duo Donald Young and Taylor Townsend in the mixed doubles semifinal at the US Open. The match, held on September 4, ended with scores of 3-6, 4-6 in favor of Young and Townsend.

Bopanna and Sutjiadi’s journey to the semifinals included a challenging quarterfinal win over the pairing of Matthew Ebden and Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova. The intense match lasted over 90 minutes, showcasing the resilience and determination of the Indian-Indonesian duo.

Earlier in the tournament, Bopanna faced another disappointment when he and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden were eliminated in the men’s doubles third round. They were defeated by the Argentine team of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.

Additionally, Indian players Sumit Nagal, Yuki Bhambri, and N. Sriram Balaji also experienced early exits from the tournament. Nagal was knocked out in the first round of men’s singles, while Bhambri and Balaji were eliminated at various stages in their respective events.

Despite these setbacks, the US Open remains a significant event for showcasing talent and competitive spirit in tennis.
