Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Inaugurates Bihar Diwas 2025: A Celebration of Progress and Development

Patna, March 22, 2025 – The grand celebrations for Bihar’s 113th foundation day kicked off today with a spectacular ceremony at Gandhi Maidan, Patna, where Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Bihar Diwas 2025 celebrations. The three-day event, running from March 22 to March 24, revolves around the theme ‘Unnat Bihar, Vikasit Bihar’ (Developed Bihar, Progressive Bihar), emphasizing the state’s growth and development over the years.

The Bihar Diwas celebrations hold significant cultural and historical value for the people of the state, and this year’s event is being marked with an array of activities that highlight Bihar’s development journey, from rural empowerment to education and disaster management.

A Grand Inauguration at Gandhi Maidan

The inauguration of Bihar Diwas 2025 began with CM Nitish Kumar lighting the ceremonial lamp at Gandhi Maidan, setting the stage for three days of celebrations. The Chief Minister was accompanied by various dignitaries and government officials, all of whom were present to honor the rich history of Bihar and its modern-day transformation.

“The theme ‘Unnat Bihar, Vikasit Bihar’ symbolizes our commitment to the continuous progress and development of the state,” said Nitish Kumar in his inaugural speech. He emphasized that the state has come a long way in recent years, with improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and rural development at the core of the government’s initiatives.

Exploring the Exhibition on Development Initiatives

One of the highlights of the inaugural ceremony was CM Nitish Kumar’s visit to the exhibition that showcased the developmental work carried out by various departments of the state government. The exhibition, set up at Gandhi Maidan, focused on several key projects aimed at socio-economic empowerment, infrastructure development, and inclusive growth.

Notably, the Rural Development Department’s exhibition drew significant attention, as it highlighted the Jeevika program, a highly successful initiative aimed at empowering women in rural areas. The Jeevika sisters, women engaged in the program, interacted with the CM and showcased their entrepreneurial efforts, providing a clear example of how self-help groups are transforming lives in Bihar’s rural heartland.

Release of Key Documents: Emphasizing Safety and Disaster Management

In addition to the exhibition, CM Nitish Kumar also released two important documents aimed at bolstering disaster preparedness and safety in schools.

  1. ‘Disaster Risk Reduction Roadmap of Bihar’: A comprehensive guide to the state’s strategy for reducing the impact of natural disasters through better preparedness, risk management, and community resilience.
  2. ‘Chief Minister School Safety Program (Class 9-12)’: An initiative to improve safety protocols in schools across the state, ensuring that students have a safe learning environment.

These documents were published by the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority and are part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance disaster resilience and student safety.

Inauguration of the Patna Book Festival

Another key event during Bihar Diwas 2025 was the inauguration of the Patna Book Festival. Held at Gandhi Maidan, the festival brought together authors, publishers, and book lovers from across the state and beyond. CM Nitish Kumar inaugurated the festival, emphasizing the importance of literacy and education in the state’s ongoing development.

“Books and literature play an essential role in shaping the future of any state. The Patna Book Festival is a step towards fostering a culture of reading and intellectual growth in Bihar,” said the Chief Minister during his address at the festival. The festival also featured stalls from leading publishing houses, offering a diverse collection of books ranging from regional literature to academic resources.

The Role of Bihar Diwas in Promoting State Pride

Bihar Diwas is not just a celebration of Bihar’s foundation, but it is also a time for Biharis to reflect on their achievements, challenges, and aspirations. The event fosters state pride and community spirit among its citizens, particularly when the achievements in education, agriculture, and rural development are recognized.

The ongoing developmental initiatives championed by the state government reflect the transformation of Bihar from a resource-rich state to a progressive hub for education, healthcare, and employment.

With the inclusion of Jeevika, disaster management programs, and the Patna Book Festival, the celebrations also serve as a platform for awareness-building about the state’s growth trajectory and its dedication to overcoming longstanding challenges.

A Look Forward: Bihar’s Future Under the ‘Unnat Bihar, Vikasit Bihar’ Vision

As the Bihar Diwas 2025 celebrations unfold over the next few days, there is no doubt that the emphasis will remain on economic progress, inclusive development, and statewide empowerment. The government’s focus on rural development and educational reforms will be critical in shaping the future of Bihar as it continues on its path toward being a fully developed state.

The theme ‘Unnat Bihar, Vikasit Bihar’ underscores the importance of sustainable growth, technological advancements, and social inclusivity, which will guide the state’s vision for the coming years.
