Bhagwant Mann Government’s New Initiative for Rural Skills and Women Empowerment; ‘Pehel Mart’ to Make Village Women Self-Reliant

by News Desk

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is consistently taking steps that set an example for the development and empowerment of every section of the state. Continuing this endeavor, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister, Shri Tarunpreet Singh Sond, today inaugurated “Pehil Mart” at the Punjab Civil Secretariat. This initiative has been launched by the Punjab State Rural Livelihoods Mission (PSRLM) with the aim of recognizing rural talent and making women financially self-reliant.

“Pehil Mart” is not just a marketplace; it is a symbol of Punjab’s rich heritage, the hard work, and the creativity of rural women entrepreneurs. Here, women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are directly connecting customers with their handcrafted products, including Phulkari, Punjabi Juttis, handmade suits, honey, pickles, squashes, oils, spices, papad, soaps, preserves (murabbe), and candles. This will not only provide them with economic benefits but also give new recognition to their skills.

On this occasion, Minister Shri Sond stated that this mart is proof of the Punjab government’s serious commitment to rural development and women empowerment. He emphasized that this platform will inspire thousands of rural women to stand on their own feet and give a new direction to their families and society.

During the inauguration, several senior officials were present, including Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha and Administrative Secretary Ajit Balaji Joshi. Everyone expressed delight that through “Pehil Mart,” the labor and art of rural women will reach the cities directly, providing them with a better market.

This initiative of the Punjab government is expected to generate a wave of economic progress, self-reliance, and social change in rural communities. It will not only secure livelihoods but also prove to be a strong step towards sustainable development.

The launch of “Pehil Mart” further reinforces the fact that the Mann government is fully dedicated to giving every Punjabi, especially women and villagers, a better and self-sufficient future.
