According to reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) will hold its next chairman’s election in November of this year. Greg Barclay, the current leader, is qualified for a second term after serving for four.

There are rumors, though, that BCCI secretary Jay Shah would enter the race. If he does, and he wins, he will be the youngest person to hold the position.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will convene its annual conference in Colombo later in July. However, according to a report in Cricbuzz, the next chairman’s election schedule may be formalized during the conference.

Although Shah has not stated if he intends to run for office, there are rumors that he wants to alter the way the ICC operates, particularly in light of the controversy surrounding the planning of the most recent T20 World Cup, which the USA and Caribbean islands co-hosted.

The newspaper also states that the chairman’s term has been modified by the ICC. The next president of cricket’s international governing body will have a three-year term instead of a two-year one and will only be eligible for reelection once, as opposed to twice previously.

Shah has been involved in cricket administration since 2009 and has previously served as the joint secretary of Gujarat Cricket Association. He joined BCCI in 2015 and was elected board secretary in September 2019.

The batting great Sunil Gavaskar recently complimented Shah for the actions the BCCI took to advance cricket in India while he was in office.

According to Gavaskar, India Today, “many criticize Jay Shah, focusing on his father’s political position rather than his contributions.”

“Yet, Jay Shah deserves praise for his accomplishments, which include establishing the Women’s Premier League, guaranteeing that the Women’s team receives the same compensation as the Men’s, raising IPL player costs, and greatly enhancing incentives. Unfortunately, others have a political agenda and won’t give him credit.
