President Droupadi Murmu Inaugurates Saushrutam 2026, Says Ayurveda’s Holistic Vision Is a Boon to Humanity

Saushrutam 2026 began with a significant milestone as the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the three-day international seminar at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, on the occasion of Sushruta Jayanti. During the event, she also inaugurated the MRI section of AIIA, strengthening the institute’s modern healthcare facilities.

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu congratulated everyone associated with Ayurveda and praised the contributions of Acharya Sushruta, who is widely recognised as the father of surgery. She stated that Sushruta’s revolutionary work centuries ago transformed the field of medical science and continues to inspire healthcare professionals worldwide.

President Murmu Highlights Acharya Sushruta’s Surgical Legacy

Speaking at Saushrutam 2026, President Droupadi Murmu said that Acharya Sushruta introduced several advanced surgical techniques during his time. His contributions included procedures related to plastic surgery, cataract surgery, tumour treatment, and ENT surgery.

She highlighted that the Sushruta Samhita, written by Acharya Sushruta, has provided valuable knowledge not only to India but also to the global medical community. The President emphasised that preserving traditional knowledge while adapting it to modern scientific standards can benefit humanity.

Ayurveda Needs Scientific Research and Modern Integration

During her address at Saushrutam 2026, President Murmu said that Ayurveda’s holistic approach to health is a valuable gift to the world. She stressed the importance of keeping ancient medical wisdom relevant through scientific validation, modern research, and technological advancements.

She noted that the Government of India has been working to establish Ayurveda and Yoga on an international platform. According to her, the use of standardised documentation, digital health systems, and evidence-based research will help Ayurveda gain wider acceptance globally.

Message for Young Ayurveda Researchers

The President encouraged young students and researchers to take responsibility for the future of Ayurveda. She advised them to focus on practical research, generate quality evidence, and maintain curiosity, integrity, and scientific thinking in their professional journey.

She also urged future healthcare professionals to adopt new technologies wherever required and follow Acharya Sushruta’s principles of medical ethics and compassionate patient care.

International Collaboration Through Saushrutam 2026

The President expressed confidence that discussions at Saushrutam 2026 will create new knowledge and strengthen international cooperation in Ayurvedic surgery. She said that such platforms will play an important role in increasing Ayurveda’s contribution to holistic healthcare worldwide.

The three-day international seminar, organised by the All India Institute of Ayurveda, will witness participation from leading surgeons, academicians, and researchers from India and abroad. The event aims to promote discussions on Ayurvedic surgery, research advancements, and the future of traditional healthcare systems.
