Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday highlighted the strong progress in India defence production growth, stating that the country has witnessed a remarkable rise in manufacturing capacity and defence capabilities over the past decade.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a 10,000-tonne aluminium extrusion press at Yantra India Limited (YIL) in Nagpur’s Ambajhari, Singh said the India defence production growth reflects India’s increasing self-reliance in critical military equipment and components.
Sharp Rise in Defence Manufacturing Output
The Defence Minister noted that India defence production growth has surged to over ₹1,78,000 crore in 2025–26, compared to just ₹46,000 crore in 2014. He said this growth shows a strong transformation in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
According to Singh, the India defence production growth has been driven by policy reforms, increased domestic manufacturing, and support for indigenous defence industries.
Defence Exports Also See Major Jump
Along with production, India defence production growth has been complemented by a significant rise in exports. Defence exports have increased from around ₹1,000 crore in 2014 to nearly ₹40,000 crore in 2025–26.
