Chandigarh: The Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has taken a key step toward reducing farmers’ dependence on the wheat–rice cycle by expanding financial support under the Kisan Credit Card Scheme. The initiative aims to encourage allied agricultural activities and improve rural incomes.
Kisan Credit Card Scheme : Boost for Allied Farming Activities
Under the updated support system, farmers will be able to access higher credit limits to invest in diversified farming sectors. This includes dragon fruit cultivation, fish farming, dairy, and animal husbandry.

Officials said the move is designed to shift agriculture towards more profitable and sustainable models instead of traditional crop patterns.
Push Towards Crop Diversification
The government’s focus is to promote crop diversification by making credit more accessible and flexible. With improved financial backing, farmers are expected to explore new income sources beyond wheat and paddy cultivation.
