by Tamanna

The Amit Shah Ladakh dairy initiatives will take a major step forward on May 1, 2026, as Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple dairy development projects in Leh. The programme will be held at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), marking a significant push towards cooperative-led rural development in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

The event will also be attended by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena, highlighting the importance of the Amit Shah Ladakh dairy initiatives for regional development.

New Dairy Infrastructure Projects to Transform Sector

Under the Amit Shah Ladakh dairy initiatives, several key infrastructure projects will be launched to strengthen milk processing and storage capacity in the region. This includes the foundation stone of a 10 TLPD dairy plant in Kargil and inauguration of new dairy processing units in Leh for curd and paneer production.

A Bulk Milk Cooler system will also be introduced to improve cold-chain logistics, ensuring better preservation and transportation of milk across remote areas. The Amit Shah Ladakh dairy initiatives aim to significantly enhance the dairy value chain in Ladakh.

Digital Push for Cooperative Modernisation

A major highlight of the Amit Shah Ladakh dairy initiatives is the launch of an Android-based Automated Milk Collection System (AMCS) application. This digital platform will streamline milk procurement processes and ensure transparent, timely payments to farmers.

In addition, a mobile milk testing laboratory will be flagged off to support quality assurance at the grassroots level. These innovations are expected to modernise cooperative operations under the Amit Shah Ladakh dairy initiatives.

Market Linkages and Farmer Empowerment

The Amit Shah Ladakh dairy initiatives will also include the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen marketing and branding of dairy products. This move aims to improve market access and increase income for local dairy farmers.

Progressive farmers from the region will be felicitated during the event, recognising their contribution to the sector. The Amit Shah Ladakh dairy initiatives are aligned with the government’s vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi” (prosperity through cooperation).

Focus on Rural Growth and Cooperative Strengthening

The Amit Shah Ladakh dairy initiatives reflect the government’s broader commitment to strengthening cooperatives, improving rural livelihoods, and promoting inclusive economic growth in remote and high-altitude regions like Ladakh.

With investments in infrastructure, digital tools, and market integration, the Amit Shah Ladakh dairy initiatives are expected to transform the dairy ecosystem and empower local farmers in a sustainable way.
