Rupa Ganguly began her acting career in 1984 with the film Pari. She went on to appear in several Hindi and Bengali films, but her career truly skyrocketed with B.R. Chopra’s television epic Mahabharat, in which she played the role of Draupadi.

Her portrayal of Draupadi was so compelling that she became an overnight TV star. Even after 36 years, audiences still remember her iconic performance. However, not many are aware that RRupa Ganguly’s personal life has been marked by significant struggles.

Dependence on Her Husband

Rupa Ganguly married Dhrub Mukherjee in 1992 and subsequently stepped away from acting. She later revealed that her husband pressured her to quit her career and stay at home. According to Navbharat Times, after leaving acting, Rupa became financially dependent on her husband, who did not provide money for her personal expenses. Even small daily needs required her to ask him for support, which caused significant emotional distress.

After enduring 15 years of this restrictive life, Rupa divorced Dhrub Mukherjee in 2007.

Rupa Ganguly Love, Heartbreak, and Mental Struggles

Following her divorce, Rupa entered a live-in relationship with Bengali singer Dibyendu Mukherjee, but that relationship also ended prematurely. Over the years, she faced numerous ups and downs in her personal life and admitted that she was emotionally broken.

Rupa Ganguly has openly shared that she attempted suicide three times due to these experiences, which left her with deep insecurities regarding men.

From Acting to Politics

Despite these personal challenges, Rupa continued to entertain audiences through her acting. After stepping away from the screen, she turned to politics and is now actively involved in West Bengal politics and social service initiatives.

Rupa Ganguly’s journey reflects not only her professional triumphs but also her resilience in overcoming personal hardships.
