Amritsar– In a significant breakthrough under the ongoing initiative to make Punjab safer, the Amritsar Police Commissionerate has dismantled a cross-border illegal arms smuggling network. Two operatives were arrested, and five sophisticated pistols were recovered, officials said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shera Singh (26) of Bhindi Nain village, Amritsar, and Jagroop Singh, alias Joopa (21), from Toor village, Amritsar. The seized weapons include a .30 bore PX5 Storm, a 9MM Austria-made Glock, two .30 bore China-made Norinco pistols, and a .32 bore pistol, along with 10 live cartridges.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media and were facilitating the supply of illegal arms to criminal elements on their instructions. Further investigations are underway to trace the full network of the smuggling operation.
