Terror Plot Busted : The Delhi Police Special Cell successfully dismantled a major terror module on Sunday, February 22, 2026. In a high-stakes coordinated operation, officials arrested eight suspects across Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Investigators believe the group planned large-scale strikes in the national capital. Initial reports link the module to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and extremist groups based in Bangladesh.
Garment Factories and Fake Identities: The Tiruppur Connection
The breakthrough occurred after the Special Cell tracked a digital trail to the industrial hub of Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. Six individuals were detained from various garment manufacturing units in Uthukuli, Palladam, and Thirumuruganpoondi. The suspects used forged Aadhaar cards to blend into the local migrant workforce. Police identified the six men as Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid, and Mohammad Ujjal.
Simultaneously, two other operatives were apprehended in West Bengal. Preliminary investigations suggest that several of the arrested men are Bangladeshi nationals who illegally crossed the border. During the raids, officers seized 16 SIM cards and eight mobile phones. These devices reportedly contained incriminating videos of reconnaissance missions conducted in multiple Indian cities, including Delhi.
Religious Sites on High Alert: The Target Profile
The crackdown follows a red alert issued by security agencies regarding a possible Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) plot. Intelligence inputs suggested that terrorists aimed to avenge a February 6 mosque explosion in Islamabad. The plot specifically targeted high-footfall religious and heritage sites in Old Delhi.
A prominent temple in the Chandni Chowk area and the historic Red Fort were among the primary targets. Sources indicate the module planned to use Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to cause maximum casualties. This threat comes just months after a deadly car explosion near the Red Fort in November 2025, which remains fresh in the public memory.

From Provocative Posters to Foreign Handlers
The investigation began when “Free Kashmir” posters appeared at over ten locations in Delhi, including several metro stations. This provocative activity occurred during the high-profile AI Impact Summit 2026. CCTV footage and social media monitoring led the Special Cell to a network of “white-collar” operatives.
Detectives have identified the mastermind as a Kashmir native currently operating from Bangladesh. This handler allegedly received training in Pakistan before establishing the module. The suspects reportedly communicated through encrypted social media apps to coordinate their logistics. Following the arrests, security has been significantly tightened at all major religious sites, airports, and railway stations across India.
