Harjot Singh Bains : Punjab Govt Sets Up 3,255 Special Exam Centres for Differently-Abled Students

Bhagwant Mann Government ensures dignity and support for Divyang students during PSEB exams

Chandigarh ;  The Bhagwant Mann Government has made extensive arrangements to support differently-abled students appearing in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) annual examinations, which began on February 17, 2026, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced on Wednesday.

In a major move towards inclusive education, the Minister stated that the state government has established 3,255 special examination centres exclusively for 6,695 students with unique abilities, ensuring that every student can take exams with dignity, confidence, and comfort.

Out of these, 2,804 centres have been created for individual students, providing a personalised, stress-free, and supportive environment for those requiring special attention.

“Our government is committed to the principles of inclusive education,” said Harjot Singh Bains. “Our aim goes beyond conducting exams; it is about respect, equality, and empowerment for every child. We want all Divyang students to feel confident and supported throughout the examination process.”

The Minister Harjot Singh Bains added that, in line with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the PSEB has provided necessary accommodations, including:

  • Scribes and extra time based on individual requirements
  • Ground-floor halls with ramps and barrier-free access
  • Separate quiet rooms to minimize distractions
  • Large-print and other accessible formats of question papers
  • Medical support wherever required

Describing the initiative as a major milestone, Harjot Singh Bains said, “This reflects our commitment to building a just and equitable society. The Punjab government is dedicated to providing all students with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.”

Dr. Amarpal Singh, Chairman of PSEB, added that centre superintendents and staff have been instructed to carry out their duties with utmost sensitivity and care. He highlighted that the network of special centres covers 11 categories of disabilities, underscoring the government’s commitment to inclusive education and supporting students to pursue higher education and career opportunities.
