Chandigarh: Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO conducted a detailed review of ongoing road infrastructure projects across the state during a high-level meeting held at Punjab Bhavan, Chandigarh.
During the meeting, the Minister assessed the progress of projects under the Public Works Department (PWD) and emphasized the importance of completing all works well before the onset of the rainy season. He instructed officials to set weekly targets for accelerating bituminous and paving works and to ensure timely execution.
Harbhajan Singh ETO directed that these weekly targets be monitored daily by the respective Chief Engineers and periodically reviewed at his level to maintain accountability and efficiency. He stressed that residents of Punjab must be provided with durable, high-quality roads without unnecessary delays.

Reaffirming the Bhagwant Singh Mann government’s commitment to world-class infrastructure, the Minister stated that modernizing and strengthening the state’s road network remains a top priority. Improved connectivity, he noted, will facilitate safer, smoother travel while boosting economic growth and regional development.
Harbhajan Singh Orders Strict Adherence to Financial and Physical Targets, Warns Against Negligence
The Minister further instructed all officers to make every effort to achieve both financial and physical targets within the prescribed timeframe, warning that strict action will be taken against any official or contractor found negligent in implementing road works.
He also directed that paving activities commence immediately, as current environmental conditions are suitable for pre-mix and carpeting works. Routine surprise inspections will be conducted to ensure adherence to engineering standards and maintain transparency in project execution.
Highlighting his personal commitment to quality, Harbhajan Singh ETO stated that he will personally inspect construction sites across the state to guarantee transparency, accountability, and timely completion. To further streamline processes and avoid last-minute delays at treasuries, he directed that all contractor bills be submitted promptly.
