The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing anti-corruption campaign, has arrested Swarn Singh, a Junior Engineer posted at the PSPCL office in Fazilka district, for accepting a bribe of ₹4,000.
According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau , the arrest was made following a complaint filed by a resident of village Gagan Ke in Fazilka. The complainant, who is engaged in agriculture, stated that due to a faulty electricity meter, a family member had temporarily connected a direct wire to the main power line to restore supply.

During an inspection, Junior Engineer Swarn Singh detected the connection and allegedly threatened to register a power theft case. Later, when the complainant met him at his office to resolve the issue, the engineer reportedly demanded ₹5,000 as illegal gratification to settle the matter. The complainant recorded the conversation in which the bribe was demanded. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to ₹4,000.
Vigilance Bureau Lays Trap, Junior Engineer Caught Red-Handed Accepting ₹4,000 Bribe
Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau conducted a preliminary inquiry and subsequently laid a trap. The accused was caught red-handed while accepting ₹4,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Ferozepur. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
