Canada’s Yuvraj Samra Becomes Youngest T20 World Cup Centurion at 19

The 19-year-old scored a career-best 110 off 65 balls, becoming the youngest centurion in T20 World Cup history.

Chennai: Canadian cricketer Yuvraj Samra, of Indian origin, became the youngest player in T20 World Cup history to score a century when he smashed 110 off 65 balls against New Zealand in a Group D match on Tuesday. At just 19 years old, Samra played a career-best innings that helped his team post a total of 173 runs against the higher-ranked opponents.

Named after Indian cricket icon Yuvraj Singh by his cricket-loving father Baljit Samra, the young batter achieved this feat in only his 19th T20 International, having made his debut in March last year.

Yuvraj Samra Makes T20 World Cup History at 19

During his whirlwind knock, Samra hit 11 fours and six sixes, laying the foundation for Canada’s impressive total. He was eventually dismissed in the final over while attempting another big shot against bowler Jacob Duffy.

This innings also marked the highest individual score by a batter from an Associate team in T20 World Cup history. The previous record for the fastest hundred in the tournament was held by Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad, who reached the milestone at age 22 in 2014.
