Chandigarh: The Punjab Police ’s ongoing anti-gangster drive, ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’, has entered its 27th day, with intensified operations being carried out across the state under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. On Monday, police teams conducted 516 raids at identified locations linked to associates of gangsters.
The campaign was formally launched on January 20, 2026, by Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav with the aim of making the state gangster-free. District police units, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), have been carrying out special operations throughout Punjab as part of the crackdown.

On the 27th day of the drive, police arrested 181 individuals and recovered two weapons from their possession. Since the launch of the campaign, total arrests have reached 9,442. In addition, preventive action was taken against 67 individuals, while 139 persons were detained for verification and later released after questioning. Seven proclaimed offenders were also apprehended during the latest operations.
Punjab Police Urge Public to Share Tips via Anti-Gangster Helpline
The Punjab Police has urged citizens to assist in the crackdown by sharing information about wanted criminals and gang-related activities. Tips can be provided anonymously through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946.
Meanwhile, the state’s anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ continued on its 352nd day. On Monday, police arrested 77 alleged drug smugglers and seized 2 kg of heroin, 1,345 intoxicant tablets and capsules, along with ₹69,120 in suspected drug money. With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended under the campaign has risen to 49,841 in 352 days.

In a notable case, Bathinda police arrested one individual and recovered 1.5 kg of heroin from his possession. As part of ongoing de-addiction initiatives, Punjab Police also persuaded 16 individuals to undergo rehabilitation and treatment for substance abuse.
The twin campaigns reflect the state government’s continued focus on tackling organised crime and drug trafficking while promoting rehabilitation efforts to address substance abuse.
