NEC Releases Funds for Mizoram, Completes Key Road Project

North Eastern Council (NEC) released ₹81.50 crore in January 2026 to support development across Northeast India. Notably, NEC releases funds for Mizoram under various infrastructure and livelihood schemes.

Out of the total allocation, ₹1.83 crore was released for projects in Mizoram under NEC schemes. The funding supports industrial growth, food safety infrastructure, and service sector initiatives.

Officials confirmed that the sanctioned projects include the North East Service Hub. Additionally, funding supports initiatives under Fostering Industry Innovation Infrastructure and Livelihood Opportunities aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 9.

Projects at Lyngleng-I and Sialhawk will promote industrial innovation and livelihood creation. Moreover, the strengthening of a Food Testing Laboratory aims to enhance food safety standards in the state.

As NEC releases funds for Mizoram, the council continues to prioritise balanced regional development. The January disbursement reflects ongoing efforts to boost infrastructure and institutional capacity.

Regional Development Push Across Northeast

Beyond Mizoram, NEC allocated ₹32.59 crore to central and regional agencies. These funds support educational institutions, cultural bodies, and development agencies across the Northeast.

Major projects include community initiatives for the Koireng tribe in Manipur. Additionally, the council supported cane and bamboo production in Mizoram and Nagaland.

Infrastructure funding covered school buildings and hostels in Mizoram, Assam, and Manipur. Furthermore, kiwi orchard development projects received support across the region.

Tourism promotion in Manipur and Mizoram also benefited from January allocations. Similarly, scientific pig breeding units aim to strengthen livestock productivity in rural areas.

NEC releases funds for Mizoram as part of a broader regional growth plan. Infrastructure projects such as multipurpose halls and convention centres received backing in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Manipur.

Non-project activities also gained support. These include regional seminars, agricultural drives, cultural festivals, and sustainable development workshops. Consequently, the funding covers both hard infrastructure and soft development initiatives.

₹45.15 Crore Road Upgrade Boosts Border Connectivity

In a major milestone, NEC completed the upgradation of the Saiha–Lungbun–Tluangnuam–Haka Road in Mizoram. The 13-kilometre stretch from Lungbun to River Kolodyne was executed under the NESIDS (Roads) scheme.

North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme funded the project at a total cost of ₹45.15 crore.

The upgraded road directly benefits around 17,500 residents across seven villages in Siaha district. Importantly, the project improves connectivity in one of Mizoram’s remote border regions.

Moreover, the road enhances access towards the India–Myanmar border. Improved mobility is expected to stimulate local trade and economic activity.

NEC releases funds for Mizoram while also ensuring timely completion of strategic projects. The Saiha road upgrade demonstrates the council’s focus on border infrastructure.

Better roads reduce travel time and transportation costs. Consequently, farmers and small traders can access markets more efficiently. Additionally, improved connectivity supports healthcare and education access in remote villages.
