Yash Raj Films (YRF) on Friday firmly rejected claims circulating on social media that attempted to connect recent viral reports about “missing girls” in Delhi to a promotional campaign for its film Mardaani 3. The controversy arose after reports alleged a sharp rise in missing persons cases in the national capital during the first 15 days of 2026.
These assertions were rapidly amplified online and also drew reactions from political leaders, with some suggesting that the atmosphere of fear was intentionally created as a publicity tactic for the Rani Mukerji-led film, which hit theatres on January 30, 2026. The movie’s storyline revolves around a similar social issue, further fuelling speculation.
Responding to the allegations, YRF categorically denied any involvement and distanced itself from what it described as “unethical” marketing practices related to the reports of missing girls in Delhi.
When contacted by source a spokesperson for Yash Raj Films stated, “Yash Raj Films is a 50-year-old organisation built on strong values of ethics and transparency. We categorically deny the allegations circulating on social media that the promotional campaign for Mardaani 3 has intentionally sensationalised such a sensitive issue. We place complete faith in the authorities to present all facts and the truth in due course.”

Earlier on Friday, Delhi Police also dismissed claims of a surge in missing girls, stating that such narratives were being amplified through paid promotions.
The police warned that strict action would be taken against individuals spreading misinformation, stressing that generating panic for financial benefit would not be tolerated. In a post on X, Delhi Police said, “After pursuing certain leads, it has been found that the hype regarding an increase in missing girls in Delhi is being driven through paid promotion. Creating fear for monetary gains will not be tolerated, and strict action will be initiated against those responsible.”
Missing missing girls, Cases Prioritised, No Spike Reported: Delhi Police PRO Sanjay Tyagi
Delhi Police PRO Sanjay Tyagi, speaking on Thursday, clarified that there has been no rise in missing-person cases in the city when compared to previous years. He further noted that January 2026 actually recorded fewer such cases than the same period last year.
“There is no reason for fear or panic regarding missing persons in Delhi, especially children. When compared to earlier periods, there has been no increase in the number of missing persons reported. In fact, January 2026 has seen a decline in such reports compared to the same timeframe last year. Delhi Police maintains a policy of fair and transparent crime reporting,” Tyagi said in a video shared by Delhi Police.
He also explained that missing-person complaints can be lodged not only at local police stations but also through online platforms or by calling ERSS 112. As per standard operating procedures (SOPs), cases involving missing children are treated as a priority and addressed swiftly.
Tyagi added that dedicated missing persons teams are deployed across districts, and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Crime Branch works to ensure effective response. He further emphasised that no organised gangs have been found to be involved in cases related to missing children or kidnappings.
