Gujarat : The Gujarat unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised serious concerns over the proposed slaughterhouse project in Ahmedabad, reportedly costing ₹32 crore. Dr. Karan Barot, AAP’s state spokesperson, criticized the state government, accusing it of attempting to downplay the issue.
Speaking through a video message, Dr. Karan Barot questioned who originally conceived the idea of the slaughterhouse, whether it was a BJP leader, municipal commissioner, or any other official, and demanded that the responsible person be held accountable. He cited past instances under the current government, including incidents affecting public faith and animal welfare, to emphasize his point.
Dr. Karan Barot highlighted that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation would earn ₹25 per animal processed at the facility, and he warned that the burden of costs would ultimately fall on citizens. He called on the government to publicly disclose the individual behind the proposal and reaffirmed AAP’s opposition to the project.

“The BJP claims to protect Hindu values and promises to close slaughterhouses, yet now it is planning to renovate one at a cost of ₹32 crore in Ahmedabad, potentially hurting public sentiment. This government must clarify its intentions,” Dr. Karan Barot stated.
Karan Barot further criticized the municipal administration’s handling of public grievances and raised concerns about ongoing social issues in the state. The AAP demanded a halt to the project and closure of all operational slaughterhouses in Ahmedabad, urging transparency from the government on the decision-making process.
