Patna: The Bihar government has unveiled a major initiative to expand higher education throughout the state. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that degree colleges will be established in all 213 blocks that currently lack such institutions, with classes set to begin by July 2026. The move aims to make higher education more accessible, particularly for students in rural and remote areas who face difficulties traveling long distances for studies.
Sharing the update on social media platform X, Nitish Kumar said the initiative is part of the government’s “Seven Resolves-3” programme under the theme “Advanced Education – Bright Future.” Currently, Bihar has 534 blocks, of which 213 do not have affiliated or constituent degree colleges, forcing many students to drop out or relocate, which is not feasible for everyone.

New Colleges for Girls; 55 Upgraded to Centres of Excellence : Nitish Kumar
The Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emphasized that the new colleges will particularly benefit girls, as having educational institutions nearby will ease concerns around safety and allow families to support their daughters in continuing higher education.

Additionally, the government plans to upgrade 55 of Bihar’s existing colleges and universities into “Centres of Excellence” by modernizing facilities, updating courses, and ensuring skilled faculty. Officials have been instructed to consult experienced educators and students while implementing these improvements.
Nitish Kumar highlighted that expanding colleges to every block and enhancing older institutions will provide job-oriented education and better career opportunities for Bihar’s youth, strengthen the state’s education system, and contribute to the social and economic development of Bihar.
