CM Pushkar Dhami Announces Abolition of Madrasa Board, Minority Institutions to Come Under New Authority

All minority institutions will now come under the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority, with recognition through the State School Education Board

Uttarakhand : The Uttarakhand government  , Pushkar Dhami has decided to discontinue the Madrasa Board starting from July 2026. In its place, a new body called the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority has been formed.

Special Secretary Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate stated that during the previous Assembly session, Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami had announced the decision to abolish the Madrasa Board. He also mentioned that from July this year, all minority educational institutions will come under the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority, and their recognition will be carried out through the Uttarakhand Board of School Education.

Dr. Parag added that following the Chief Minister’s directions, respected academicians and experts have been appointed to the Authority. These members will be responsible for designing the academic curriculum for students from minority communities. Representatives and educators from all minority groups have been included.

He further shared that Dr. Surjit Singh Gandhi has been named Chairman of the Authority. The members include Prof. Rakesh Jain, Dr. Syed Ali Hamid, Prof. Pema Tenzin, Dr. Elba Medrile, Prof. Robina Aman, and Prof. Gurmeet Singh. Additionally, social worker Rajendra Bisht and retired official Chandrashekhar Bhatt have also been appointed as members. The Directors of Higher Education, SCERT, and Minority Welfare will serve as ex-officio members of the Authority.
