PEDA partners with Chandigarh University and Bhai Gurdas Institute for R&D projects to boost energy efficiency, sustainability, and student participation.

In a major move to promote energy conservation and efficiency for a sustainable future, the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading academic institutions to undertake Research & Development (R&D) projects.

Punjab Minister for New & Renewable Energy Sources, Aman Arora, announced that the MoUs were signed with Chandigarh University, Gharuan and Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering & Technology, Sangrur. The collaborations aim to enhance energy efficiency in buildings, industries, and public infrastructure through targeted research.

Congratulating PEDA, Arora stated that these MoUs are designed to foster strong partnerships between the government, academia, and students, encouraging innovation, research, and practical solutions to reduce energy consumption and improve efficiency across various sectors in Punjab. Engineering and technical students will have the opportunity to actively participate in real-world energy research, field studies, technology development, and pilot projects.

The MoUs, signed by PEDA CEO Neelima, are expected to nurture young talent, enhance technical skills, and spread awareness about energy conservation and sustainable development among students. The R&D projects will focus on boosting energy efficiency in buildings, industries, and public spaces, promoting green technologies, supporting policy research for long-term energy planning, and reducing energy costs and the state’s carbon footprint.

Minister Arora reaffirmed that the Punjab Government under CM Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to energy efficiency and sustainable growth, aiming to make Punjab a model state for responsible energy use.

Administrative Secretary of New & Renewable Energy Sources, Dr. Basant Garg, highlighted that these academic collaborations will be crucial in achieving Punjab’s energy conservation targets, while preparing students and institutions to actively contribute to the state’s clean energy transition. This initiative is expected to promote innovation, strengthen student and faculty capacities, and reduce emissions, contributing to a cleaner and greener Punjab.
