Punjab Speaker demands review of MBBS derecognition in J&K, warning against education being influenced by religion or politics.

Kultar Singh Sandhwan, the speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, stated that the Central Government’s decision to revoke the MBBS accreditation of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Jammu and Kashmir is not only a risky example of tying education to politics and religion, but it is also an injustice to the students’ future. This medical college’s admissions process was entirely lawful and open, which was based on the results of the National Medical Commission’s own approved NEET central exam.

Upon conducting an inspection of the institution, the speaker emphasized that it is unfair and unjust to revoke the MBBS accreditation solely because students practice a specific faith. Why was the college accredited only four months ago if it had such serious problems? To respond to this, the National Medical Commission is in charge.

The speaker emphasized that celebrating the loss of accreditation and protesting the closing of educational institutions are indicators of societal degradation. The goal of education is to eradicate ignorance, not to exacerbate division and hostility. It is neither good nor consistent with the spirit of the constitution to close a professional institution, such as a medical college, without providing it with an opportunity for change.

The speaker fervently urged that this ruling be reconsidered right away in order to safeguard students’ interests and prevent education from being influenced by political or religious goals.
