JD(U) leader KC Tyagi writes to PM Modi urging Bharat Ratna for Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for his lifelong contribution to socialism and public service.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, January 9, 2026, senior Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi called for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to receive the nation’s highest honor. KC Tyagi claimed in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Nitish Kumar, one of the socialist movement’s remaining treasures, was deserving of the Bharat Ratna. He deserves this honor. “May 30, 2024, a day of honor for our ancestors,” the letter stated. He received the highest honor of “Bharat Ratna” because to your efforts, Self. Chaudhary Charan Singh and Late. Karpoori Thakur put a lot of work into organizing the underprivileged and showing respect for those who have been left out.

KC Tyagi: “Overwhelmed by your efforts, it is a request that the precious gem of the socialist movement, Nitish Kumar is also worthy of this honor.” Nitish Kumar is also eligible for the “Bharat Ratna.” This distinction has previously been given to numerous heroes. I hope and ask that you grant this distinction to dear leader Nitish Kumar on behalf of millions of people so that history will remember your work for a very long time.

‘Bharat Ratna’ was another demand made by Giriraj Singh.

Nonetheless, the call for Nitish Kumar to get “Bharat Ratna” has been made previously. In the past, Union Minister Giriraj Singh had also called for Nitish Kumar and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to get the “Bharat Ratna.” Giriraj Singh had stated in December 2024 that Nitish Kumar had contributed to the state’s progress. For many years, Naveen Patnaik has also worked in Odisha. Awards such as the Bharat Ratna ought to be given to such individuals.

For the tenth time, Nitish Kumar is currently Bihar’s chief minister. Few persons, meanwhile, have received the nation’s greatest distinction while they are still alive.
