Punjab Vidhan Sabha hosts mock Assembly for students on Constitution Day; paperless NEVA system boosts public engagement and digital governance.
As part of the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the Punjab government held a special mock Vidhan Sabha session for students from Punjab’s government schools on Constitution Day in the specially constructed Vidhan Sabha premises at Sri Anandpur Sahib. The program was designed to motivate kids to participate in politics and become future state leaders.
Dr. Ravjot Singh, the Punjab Parliamentary Affairs Minister, inspired the students who were portraying different dignitaries throughout the occasion. He underlined that today’s students will be tomorrow’s leaders, and the Punjab government’s unique effort demonstrates its dedication to developing their political and leadership abilities. In addition, he invited parents, teachers, and students to get involved in politics and congratulated them on this milestone.
According to Dr. Ravjot Singh, special Legislative Assembly sessions have been held this year to discuss matters pertaining to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). The Minister stated that the Punjab Legislative Assembly had gone paperless for all of its operations as of 2023. Paper is no longer used during sessions as the Assembly’s work is now entirely done online.

The Punjab Vidhan Sabha has adopted the National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA) project for the first time. Administrative secretaries and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) have received training on how to use the new system. In order to modernize the Vidhan Sabha’s operations and connect it with cutting-edge technology, a digital wing has also been developed. The High-Tech Training Room (NEVA Service Center), High-Tech Control Room, Network Control Room, NIC Cell, and IT Cell are all located in this wing.
The public’s involvement has grown thanks to the NEVA app’s live webcasting of Assembly events. The Punjab Vidhan Sabha Secretariat’s operations have also improved. Members and staff can now access paperless facilities and documents are presented digitally in the House.
