IMD predicts dense fog, heavy rainfall, and snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and surrounding regions.
Over the next few days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that much of north and central India would see cold wave conditions, heavy fog, snowfall, and widespread rain.
A western disturbance that is still present in the middle tropospheric westerlies is predicted to cause isolated to widespread heavy rainfall and snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on December 31 and January 1, according to the IMD’s meteorological report.
From December 31 to January 2, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also expected to have light to moderate rain and snowfall.
The weather service further stated that there could be sporadic mild to moderate rainfall across west Rajasthan on December 31 and over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on December 31 and January 1.
Over the plains, dense fog will persist.
Over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and west Uttar Pradesh, dense to extremely dense fog is predicted to last through the night and morning hours till January 1. In east Uttar Pradesh, similar conditions might last until January 2.
In addition, IMD issued a warning that over the next few days, dense fog could likely impair aviation, rail, and road travel in sections of Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and other northeastern states.
Over the next several days, the IMD predicts that minimum temperatures in northwest and central India will gradually climb before briefly falling. However, no notable changes are anticipated in the majority of the country over the course of the upcoming week.
As winter weather continues to affect daily life in northern India, authorities have encouraged locals to exercise caution, especially in the early morning and at night.
