Punjab Road Safety Council chaired by Laljit Singh Bhullar approves ₹14 Cr for ALS ambulances, upgrades trauma care units, and strengthens E-DAR enforcement.

Punjab Road Safety Council approves ₹14 Cr for 35 ALS ambulances, ₹66 Lakh for trauma units, and 415 smartphones for effective E-DAR implementation.

Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar presided over the 16th meeting of the Punjab Road Safety Council. The council voted to give 66 lakh rupees for the modernization of five trauma care units during the meeting. In order to ensure that the E-DAR initiative is implemented effectively, the council also voted to give the Police Department 415 Smart Phone units. The council also approved a 14 crore rupee fund for 35 ALS ambulances, which will be distributed till March 31, 2026.

The E-DAR project, black spot correction, and other pertinent topics were covered in detail during the meeting, which was held at Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh. The meeting also covered topics such as benefits for victims of hit-and-run occurrences, free medical care for victims of traffic accidents, rewards for Good Samaritans under Punjab and Government of India schemes, and the “Frishte Scheme.”

In order to enhance enforcement activities, the meeting also ordered that the acquisition of electronic equipment, interceptors, recovery vehicles, and alco-meters be accelerated. The council also agreed to release 66 lakh rupees for the modernization of five trauma care centers and to allocate 14 crore rupees for 35 ALS ambulances till March 31, 2026.

The council also mandated that road-owning agencies finish work on road marking lights, reflective tapes, and white lanes within a week in order to avert serious accidents during the fog season. The relevant Deputy Commissioners will withdraw up to one lakh rupees from the current Road Safety Fund if necessary.The meeting also determined that the Chief Engineer of the relevant route would be held personally accountable if an accident happened during the fog season as a result of a lack of lighting or other safety precautions.

The council also agreed that in order to properly execute the Hit and Run program, orientation and training sessions would be held at the main district headquarters over the course of the next two months. This will allow those who are impacted to take advantage of the program. The council instructed departments including Traffic Police, Transport, Health, and several NGOs to step up their efforts in advance of National Road Safety Month 2026. These events will be held all through January.
