Nawazuddin Siddiqui opens up on his immersive acting style, challenges of intense roles, and experiences while filming Raat Akeli Hai.
Mumbai: Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has achieved numerous successful films and has established himself as an exemplary actor. The actor, in an interview with IANS, candidly expressed his passion for immersing himself in the world of cinema and his apprehension towards the ‘actual world’.
Nawazuddin stated, “Portraying Jatil Yadav in Raat Akeli Hai, a narrative of such intensity, was an exceedingly challenging endeavor.” He remarked, “However, I found enjoyment in remaining within that realm.” At times, the realities of the world unsettle me more, leading me to withdraw from them. I find pleasure in residing within the film’s universe or environment for those three or more months until filming commences and I am immersed in that character.
When IANS inquired about the challenges of transitioning out of an intense scene after the camera shutters, Nawazuddin Siddiqui explained, “I wouldn’t say it’s easy.” I am not the type of actor who can immediately activate or deactivate their performance. If I am engaged in a project for two or three months, the character remains with me throughout that period. I am not referring to the mood; rather, the character persists somewhere in the recesses of my psyche.

He further remarked, “Until the film is finished, there is always a degree of apprehension.” Honestly, I aspire to be someone capable of switching on and off at will, but I am unable to do so, and candidly, if asked, I would admit that I do not even desire to. I prefer to maintain my demeanor.
Chitrangada Singh, who portrays the character of Meera in Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, excelled in her performance but quickly transitioned out of her intense role.
For me, it was also challenging because the entire script of Raat Akeli Hai is highly intense, centered around these characters, the homicides, and the investigation, among other elements. It is all exceedingly profound. You are reluctant to leave that zone because you are aware that you must re-enter it promptly afterward. It is not the case that the camera cuts and you begin chuckling or listening to music. “None of us experienced that on set,” she stated.
She further stated, “The director cultivates an environment that maintains you within that emotional realm.” During the journey home, I would listen to music to achieve a slight sense of detachment. In the morning, while preparing myself, I would listen to music once more to recalibrate my emotional state. Music facilitates my adjustment of frequencies. However, maintaining intensity over an extended period is challenging. You may become fatigued by a single emotion. How long can one remain in a state of happiness or sadness? Therefore, it is necessary to take pauses in order to return with renewed energy.
