Karan Johar opens up on love, heartbreak, loneliness, and single parenthood during his candid conversation with Sania Mirza on ‘Serving It Up With Sania’.

Filmmaker Karan Johar was the most recent guest on tennis player Sania Mirza’s conversation show Serving It Up With Sania. The two talked openly about their experiences with love, being single parents, and the difficulties of forming friendships. Karan acknowledged throughout the talk that he frequently feels alone, particularly when it comes to mealtimes.

“I’m okay now,” Karan said in response to Sania’s question about his feelings over the lack of a spouse. At one point in time, I was desperate for love. I wanted a relationship, I wanted company. And I experienced a broken heart, one-sided love, and a variety of dynamics. I even made a movie about it. I was able to heal because that was cathartic.

He revealed that he frequently hears advice to “go abroad” or “put himself out there” in order to find love. Karan’s response to this was, “Where? I live here with my mother and two children. This is where I must reside. I’ve experienced those beats, and I do experience loneliness; it’s a fact. Not your lows, but your highs, are when you feel the most alone. Another factor that contributes to loneliness is eating by yourself.

Karan said that he is still receptive to love even though he has mostly accepted the fact that he is unmarried. I never say never. “Rab ne vo jodi mere liye nahi banayi (God hasn’t made a partner for me),” he quipped, adding, “My arms are wide like Shah Rukh Khan’s.”

Karan Johar’s Personal and Family Life

In 2004, Karan Johar’s father, seasoned producer Yash Johar, passed away. He resides in Mumbai with his mother, Hiroo Johar, with whom he has a close relationship. Yash and Roohi, twins he affectionately named after his parents, were born through surrogacy, and he is also their only parent.

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starred in the 2023 smash hit Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which Karan most recently directed.
