Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav announces the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of six pistols and 1.01 kg heroin as Amritsar Police dismantle a Pakistan-linked arms and drug network.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said here on Sunday that Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a Pakistan-linked arms and narco network by arresting five individuals and recovering six sophisticated pistols and 1.01 kg of heroin from their possession, as part of the ongoing effort to make Punjab a safe and secure state in accordance with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directives.

Akash Masih and Prince, who live in the Amritsar Rural village of Pandori; Karanbir Singh, also known as Karan, who lives in the Amritsar Rural village of Chaugawan; Sukhwinder Singh, who lives in the Amritsar Rural village of Hetampura; and Gurbhej Singh, also known as Bheja, who lives in the village of Lahian in Tarn Taran, are the people who were arrested. There are five.30 bore and one 9MM Glock among the retrieved handguns.

According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigation has shown that the apprehended suspects were using social media applications to coordinate with handlers headquartered in Pakistan in order to gather and transport illicit weapons and drugs throughout Punjab. According to him, all of the defendants are from villages near the international border and were receiving shipments in accordance with their handlers’ instructions.

According to the DGP, more research is being done to establish forward and backward links in this instance in order to find handlers and take down the entire network.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared operational details, stating that police forces arrested accused Akash Masih and Prince during a planned Nakabandi near Chheharta and found one Glock 9mm weapon and one.30 bore pistol in their possession.

Police teams have arrested Karanbir Singh and Sukhwinder Singh based on technical leads in the case’s follow-up, he said, and they have recovered three.30 bore pistols and one kilogram of 10 grams of heroin from them. He also added that after accused Karanbir Singh, also known as Karan, came forward, police arrested Gurbhej Singh, also known as Bheja, and recovered one.30 bore pistol from him.

According to the CP, arrested individuals were distributing the illicit firearms to criminal elements in the area after the consignments were retrieved.

Two distinct cases have been filed in this regard: FIR No. 223 dated 06.11.2025 at Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar under section 25 of the Arms Act, and FIR No. 239 dated 12.11.2025 at Police Station Cantonment in Amritsar under sections 25(1-B) and 25 of the Arms Act and sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act.
