IMD Predicts Widespread Thunderstorms Across India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather forecast predicting widespread thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across several regions of India till November 7. According to the latest IMD bulletin, both day and night weather patterns are expected to shift notably, with a gradual fall in minimum temperatures signaling the arrival of cooler nights.
Thunderstorm activity will extend across east, central, south, and north India during the first week of November. The IMD has highlighted multiple areas that will witness light to moderate rainfall, gusty winds, and isolated lightning events as several weather systems influence the subcontinent.
IMD Forecasts Thunderstorms and Cooler Nights Till Nov 7
Thunderstorms to Dominate East, Central, and Western India
As per the forecast, thunderstorms with lightning are likely over western Madhya Pradesh between November 3 and 4. Parts of Maharashtra, particularly Marathwada, are expected to experience similar activity from November 3 to 5.
In western India, isolated thunderstorms with lightning will affect Rajasthan on November 3 and 4. Northern states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may also experience thunderstorm activity between November 4 and 5. The IMD has also issued a thunderstorm alert for the Northeast on November 3, indicating possible lightning strikes across the region.
The IMD warned residents to stay cautious during lightning-prone periods and avoid open fields or tall structures during storm activity. Local authorities have been advised to remain alert and monitor real-time updates for any weather-related disruptions.
Rainfall in Southern India as Temperatures Drop Nationwide
In southern India, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected between November 4 and 7. Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema will likely witness this activity between November 4 and 6. Meanwhile, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka could see thunderstorms from November 5 to 7.
The IMD noted that these weather systems are being influenced by a combination of cyclonic circulations and a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. These conditions are expected to bring intermittent showers and lightning to the southern peninsula.
At the same time, a gradual drop in night temperatures is forecast for several parts of the country. Over northwest India, temperatures will remain steady till November 5 before falling by 3–4°C over the following three days. Central India will also see a drop of 3–5°C in minimum temperatures by early next week.
This temperature decline will mark the onset of cooler nights, signaling a shift toward winter conditions in northern and central India.
Western Disturbance to Impact Northern States
A fresh western disturbance is likely to impact the western Himalayan region from November 4. This system is expected to bring cloudy skies, isolated rainfall, and gusty winds across northern states such as Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.
According to the IMD, this disturbance will contribute to the cooling trend across the northern plains. Although heavy rainfall is not expected, scattered showers may occur in the hilly regions. The system may also influence weather patterns in the adjoining plains, leading to occasional cloud cover and cool breezes.
Day-by-Day Weather Outlook (November 3–7)
November 3: Thunderstorms with lightning and winds up to 40 kmph are likely in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, western Madhya Pradesh, central Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
November 4: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds may occur over Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and Puducherry.
November 5: Similar conditions are expected over Goa, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Light rain with lightning is possible in central Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh.
November 6: Thunderstorms with lightning are likely across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karnataka. Marine conditions are expected to remain calm.
November 7: The IMD forecasts thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places over coastal and interior Karnataka.
The IMD has clarified that no warnings have been issued for fishermen after November 6, indicating improved sea conditions compared to the earlier part of the week.
Active Weather Conditions to Persist Through Early November
Overall, the IMD expects active weather across large parts of India until November 7. The combined influence of cyclonic circulations, a Bay of Bengal low-pressure system, and a western disturbance over the Himalayas will drive this pattern.
Eastern and southern states are likely to receive rain and thunderstorms, while central and northern regions will begin transitioning into cooler, drier conditions. Residents are advised to stay informed through local forecasts and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms, particularly in lightning-prone zones.
