NEW DELHI/GHAZIABAD — Two alleged criminals linked to the firing at Bollywood actress Disha Patani’s Bareilly residence were killed in an encounter on Wednesday night. The joint operation was carried out by the Noida Special Task Force (STF) and Delhi Police’s special cell in Tronica City, Ghaziabad.
Encounter After Bareilly Attack
The men were identified as Ravindra, a resident of Rohtak, Haryana, and Arun from Sonipat, Haryana. Police confirmed both were associated with the notorious Goldy Brar-Rohit Godara gang, which claimed responsibility for the firing earlier this week.
According to officers, the duo opened fire on the police team during the chase. Both sustained critical injuries in the exchange and were later declared dead at a hospital. Weapons, including a Glock and a Zigana pistol, along with live cartridges, were seized from the site.
Rajkumar Mishra, SP of Noida STF, said the encounter followed detailed intelligence gathering and CCTV analysis. “The UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed immediate action after the Bareilly incident. Our teams tracked the accused with inputs from multiple states,” Mishra stated.
Cops Injured During Operation
The shootout also left several police personnel injured. Additional CP (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwaha confirmed that Sub-Inspector Rohit sustained a gunshot wound on his left hand, while Head Constable Kailash was hit on his right bicep. Two STF head constables, Ankur and Jai, also suffered injuries but are out of danger.
Sources revealed that Ravindra had a criminal past and was wanted in several cases, including the escape of gangster Ravi Jagsi from police custody in Faridabad.
Firing at Disha Patani’s Residence
The original attack occurred around 3:45 am on September 12, when two unidentified men on a motorcycle fired nearly nine rounds at Patani’s Bareilly house. Disha was not home at the time, but her father Jagdish Patani, mother Padma, and siblings Khushboo and Suryansh were inside.
CCTV footage captured the attackers firing four shots outside the residence before fleeing. Hours later, a social media post linked to gangster Goldy Brar’s group claimed responsibility for the incident, citing alleged “insults to revered saints.” The account was deactivated shortly afterward.
Possible Motive Behind the Attack
Investigators suspect the attack was linked to a controversy involving Disha’s sister, Khushboo Patani, a retired Indian Army Major and wellness coach. She had earlier criticized preacher Katcha Vachak Aniruddh Acharya for allegedly making “misogynistic remarks.”
Khushboo shared her reaction on Instagram, writing, “If he had been in front of me, I would have taught him a lesson.” Her statement was misattributed to Premanand Ji Maharaj, a spiritual leader with a strong celebrity following, sparking widespread backlash.
In August, Khushboo warned of legal action against those spreading misinformation and clarified that her remarks were not directed at Premanand Ji. Police are now probing whether this misattribution and the subsequent online outrage triggered the gang’s retaliation.
Crackdown on Gang Networks
The Goldy Brar-Rohit Godara gang has been under close watch for its involvement in extortion and targeted attacks across North India. The swift action in the Bareilly firing case highlights increasing coordination between UP and Delhi Police to tackle interstate criminal networks.
Officials assured that the investigation remains ongoing to trace other members of the gang and prevent future incidents. Meanwhile, security has been tightened around Disha Patani’s family home in Bareilly.
