CM Bhagwant Mann Assures Justice in Samana Tragedy, Pledges Crackdown on Overloaded Vehicles
Samana (Patiala), June 7 – In the wake of a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of seven children, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann visited Samana on Saturday and assured grieving families that justice would be served, promising swift action against those responsible, along with broader reforms to improve road safety and prevent future incidents.
The Chief Minister’s visit came as emotional tension gripped the town of Samana in Patiala district, after a horrific mishap on the Samana-Patran road that shocked the state.
“Irreparable Loss”: CM Condoles Families, Assures Strict Action
Speaking to the media after meeting the bereaved families, CM Mann termed the loss “irreparable” and said the deceased children were bright and promising, representing the future of the state.
“The state government stands firmly with the families during this dark hour. We will not rest until justice is delivered,” said the Chief Minister.
He emphasized that the strictest possible punishment will be given to those responsible, including anyone—regardless of influence—who attempted to delay or derail the investigation.
“Anyone who tried to suppress justice or shield the guilty will face consequences. Such acts are nothing short of criminal,” Mann stated firmly.
Government to Crack Down on Illegal Mining, Overloaded Vehicles
In a major policy announcement during his visit, the Chief Minister declared a statewide crackdown on illegal mining operations and overloaded vehicles, both of which have been cited as contributing factors to road hazards and structural damage in Punjab.
CM Mann said that fresh instructions have been issued to the police and transport departments to act stringently against violators, adding that endangering human lives for profit would not be tolerated.
“Illegal mining and overloaded trucks are unpardonable offenses. This tragedy must be a wake-up call,” he warned.
Infrastructure Boost: Four-Laning Samana-Patran Road
Highlighting the need for safer road infrastructure, the Chief Minister announced that the Samana-Patran road—the site of the fatal accident—would be expanded into a four-lane highway.
The stretch has long been flagged for its high volume of traffic and frequent accidents, making the upgrade a critical safety intervention.
Children’s Memorial Park and Healthcare Upgrades
In a heartfelt tribute to the victims, CM Mann announced the construction of a Children’s Memorial Park in Samana, which will stand as a symbol of remembrance and resilience.
Further, to enhance emergency response and healthcare infrastructure in the region, the Chief Minister declared that:
- The Samana government hospital will be upgraded with modern medical infrastructure.
- A fleet of seven new ambulances will be added to strengthen emergency medical services.
These steps aim to reduce emergency response times and ensure the timely treatment of accident victims.
Public Safety Over Profit: A Warning to Offenders
The Chief Minister’s remarks also served as a strong warning to businesses and individuals exploiting state roads and natural resources. He reiterated the government’s commitment to public safety over profit.
“Our roads cannot become death traps. No one—however powerful—will be allowed to operate above the law,” he said.
