Nangal to Become World-Class Tourist Hub Under Mann Government’s Vision
Kadamba Complex, River View, Glass Bridge, and New Infrastructure Projects Signal Major Tourism Push
Chandigarh/Nangal, May 3, 2025 — In a bold move to reshape Punjab’s tourism map, the Mann-led government has announced an ambitious blueprint to develop Nangal into a world-class tourist destination, with major infrastructure projects like the Kadamba Tourist Complex, a Glass Bridge, and a Sutlej River View corridor set to redefine the town’s identity.
Unveiling the detailed plan, Education and Information & Public Relations Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that the government is moving “from promises to progress” by launching on-ground development that fulfills commitments made to the public in the 2022 election manifesto.
From Flyover to Future: Nangal’s Transformation Begins
The transformation has already begun with the inauguration of a multi-crore flyover that was long awaited by the residents of Nangal. Now fully operational, the flyover has eased traffic congestion, stimulated local business, and improved commute times—marking the start of broader changes in the region.
“We are not just laying foundation stones anymore; we are building foundations of real work,” said Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
Kadamba Tourist Complex to Become Nangal’s Crown Jewel
At the heart of the government’s tourism blueprint is the Kadamba Tourist Complex, which will feature modern amenities to attract domestic and international visitors. Tenders have already been floated, and construction is expected to begin shortly. Officials claim the complex will create jobs, boost the local economy, and provide a much-needed facelift to the region.
Scenic Sutlej River View and Glass Bridge in the Pipeline
Another highlight is the plan to develop a River View zone along the Sutlej River, equipped with lush landscaping, walking paths, and modern lighting. This eco-friendly initiative aims to offer both locals and tourists a serene environment that blends natural beauty with urban amenities.
Complementing this is the proposed Glass Bridge near Sutlej Park, designed to become an iconic landmark and a selfie hotspot. With tenders invited and groundwork underway, both projects are expected to significantly increase tourist footfall in the coming years.
Enhancing Education, Sports, and Health Infrastructure
Minister Bains also spotlighted the government’s parallel investments in education and sports. An ultra-modern indoor swimming pool is under construction at the School of Eminence, setting a new benchmark in Punjab’s sports infrastructure. This facility will help nurture athletic talent and may even host state-level competitions in the future.
In education, the government has upgraded government schools with modern facilities and quality teaching staff. The BBMB has been requested to allocate land for setting up Aam Aadmi Clinics and a high-quality public library, ensuring health and knowledge go hand in hand with tourism.
BBMB Now More Responsive to State Interests
A significant shift has been observed in the Bhakra Beas Management Board’s (BBMB) interaction with Punjab’s administration. According to Bains, BBMB officials have shown greater responsiveness to Punjab’s development directives under the Mann government’s proactive leadership.
“The government’s strong and transparent governance has instilled public trust, which fuels our ability to turn vision into reality,” added Bains.
Clean, Green, and Connected: Nangal’s New Identity
Minister Bains also made a public appeal to residents, urging them to contribute to the city’s transformation by maintaining cleanliness and supporting eco-friendly initiatives. He emphasized that citizen participation is essential in making Nangal not just a tourist hub but a model of sustainable urban development.
