Vigilance Bureau Arrests ASI for Accepting Rs. 25,000 Bribe in Punjab
In a significant move against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ajaib Singh, in charge of the Khasa police post under the Gharinda police station in Amritsar district, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000. This arrest is part of the state government’s commitment to fighting corruption, a policy strongly advocated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The arrest followed a complaint from a resident of the village Ghumanpura, Amritsar. The complainant reported that a police case had been filed against his cousin at the Khasa police post, and ASI Ajaib Singh, who was the investigation officer in the case, had demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000. The officer allegedly sought the money in exchange for presenting court records and helping secure bail for the complainant’s cousin.
According to an official spokesperson from the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, the complaint was thoroughly investigated. After a preliminary verification of the allegations, a VB team set up a trap to catch the accused in the act. The officer was caught red-handed accepting the first installment of Rs. 25,000 from the complainant. The entire transaction was witnessed by two official witnesses.
A case has now been filed against ASI Ajaib Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station in Amritsar Range. The accused is expected to be presented in court tomorrow, and further investigation is underway.
This operation is part of the state government’s relentless efforts to ensure accountability within law enforcement, and it sends a strong message to public officials involved in corrupt practices.
