Punjab’s ₹4.80 Crore Irrigation Initiative: Dr. Baljit Kaur Enhances Water Supply for Farmers
Chandigarh/Malout, April 18, 2025: In a significant move to enhance agricultural productivity, the Punjab Government has inaugurated canal concretization projects worth approximately ₹4.80 crore in the Malout constituency. These initiatives aim to improve water supply for irrigation, benefiting farmers across several villages.
Strengthening Irrigation Infrastructure
Dr. Baljit Kaur, Punjab’s Cabinet Minister for Social Security, Women, and Child Development, led the inauguration of these vital irrigation projects. The projects encompass the reconstruction and concretization of irrigation channels in villages including Ghumiaran Khera, Jandwala, Ballamgarh, Lakhewali, Maur, Fakarsar, and Theri. The total investment in these projects stands at ₹4.80 crore.
Key Projects and Investments
- Jandwala Village: Initiation of canal concretization work along the Malout Rajbaha at a cost of ₹66.32 lakh.
- Ghumiaran Khera Village: Inauguration of canal concretization along the Lalbai Rajbaha, with an investment of ₹77.09 lakh.
- Lakhewali Village: Concretization project valued at ₹57.05 lakh.
- Ballamgarh Village: Project worth ₹54.63 lakh.
- Maur Village: Initiative costing ₹51.73 lakh.
- Fakarsar Village: Foundation stone laid for a project worth ₹116.22 lakh.
- Theri Village: Foundation stone laid for a project valued at ₹57.85 lakh.
These projects are designed to ensure the efficient supply of canal water to tail-end agricultural lands, addressing long-standing irrigation challenges in the region.

Dr. Kaur emphasized that these infrastructural developments are part of the Punjab Government’s broader commitment to agricultural advancement.
